Pistol Permit Office
Recertification of a NYS Pistol Permit is done through the New York State Pistol Permit Bureau not through your county pistol permit office. If you need to re-certify your pistol permit please use the website below. For any other recertification questions please call 1-855-529-4867.

Applications are available ONLY at the Herkimer County Sheriff’s Office. They are NOT available online. Applications cost $25.00.
The Herkimer County Sheriff’s Office building is open Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.
Please Note - Effective immediately the pistol permit office will be accepting new Pistol Permit applications. Prior to turning in your paperwork, a 16-hour handgun safety course and 2 hours of live fire training is required in order to turn in your Pistol Permit application.
